Open Day – All the latest news

Dear Members,
Open Day is taking place on July 8th between 12 – 5pm. We’ve all the usual fun and entertainment for everyone this year, with the addition of a social tournament (2pm) and an exhibition match by 2 top Dublin players at 1pm. The BBQ will be going from 12pm, with face painting, dunk tank, ball machine, music, tennis pop-up shop, coaching, drinks and appetizers. The fun tournament will take place at 2pm after the exhibition match and is open to both members and non-members. This year, we’ve introduced a trial 3 month membership which permits prospective members to try before signing up for the full year PLUS there is no joining fee during July or August for the standard 1 year memberships. So bring the family down, (or come down to get away from them!) and join in the activities. Please help spread the word on Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp by sharing, liking and commenting on our promotional posts – getting new members is really critical to keep the club healthy, functioning and vibrant!
This Saturday, June 30th we will be handing out flyers at Supervalu in Dunshaughlin, Ratoath and Ashbourne to promote Open day and we are looking for your help in these locations between 11  – 3pm. Please contact Ali who is coordinating this on 087 6858069 if you can spare an hour or two. If you can help out on the Open Day too, please also let Ali know.
Senior League for those of you lucky enough to have made it into your 35th year by 31st Dec 2018 there is now a sign up sheet in the clubhouse, or you can fill in the doodle online ( https://doodle.com/poll/wmmnk6sxaxcci9vh) where you can select which weeks you’re available, preferred partner (check with them first!) and if you want to sub or be on a team. All Senior League matches take place on Sundays, men playing in the morning and ladies in the afternoon it starts September 2nd and runs for 5 weeks.
Tennis Holiday we are heading to Praia da Luz in October (3rd – 7th) for 11 hours of group coaching, tournament and practice – the group is almost full! Please contact Gail on 086 2780875 if you’re interested in joining.
Enjoy Tennis is a charity that focuses on tennis for those with disabilities. It started in 2015, and now has almost 1000 players in 70 tennis clubs around Ireland. It provides services for players with a range of sensory, intellectual and physical disabilities. Including athletes with visual impairment, intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury (strokes) and wheelchair users. Many of the participants within the Enjoy Tennis programs around the country have never been afforded the opportunity to play any type of sport, never mind a sport as challenging as tennis. The benefits for the participants, coaches, clubs and service providers are innumerable. The feedback to date has been outstanding from all involved, and we want to continue to get more people involved with the sport we all love so dearly.

Over the weekend of July 13th-15th, four players – David Mullins and James Cluskey (ex Davis cup team), Daniel O’Neill and Luke McGuire will attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records record for the longest ever doubles tennis match.

To break the record they need to play for 60 hours continuously – the same four guys with no subs and almost no sleep allowed! The match will take place on Court 3 in Fitzwilliam Tennis Club, supporters/spectators welcome!

The entire proceeds will go to Enjoy Tennis. The players will be going “into the unknown”, but the impact they can have on our players would be immense. Can you help with raising funds for the Programme? Contribute here: https://www.gofundme.com/world-record-attempt-enjoy-tennis or there is a Charity Ball in Fitzwilliam Tennis Club, details on the poster attached.
Yours in Tennis,
Ratoath Tennis Club Committee
